We will let you know about the 2011 dates nearer the time!

We are also in the process of compiling a waiting list for the next block of plots, which should come to fruition in spring 2011, (fingers crossed for a kinder winter than last year!), so if any of you have friends, neighbours or family who are interested in joining ‘The Promised Land’ could you let us have their details asap.

Thank you all for your continued support and please feel free to speak to us at any point with new ideas and initiatives (or constructive criticism) for ‘The Promised Land’

Guy’s Diary – September 2010

July/August/September Update

Firstly, apologies for the delay in the update which has been due to the harvest and a little bit of laziness when it was raining. When I say laziness, I do mean that I was catching up on sleep, although as James says, sleep is for wimps! I must admit, I quite like the sleep aspect of my life though!

I would like to just say on behalf of James, Katie and myself, a massive thank you for the help we received on the potato harvest day. I really can’t state the appreciation we have for the help which also made the day a great success and we hope it was fun for everyone. I could tell the Dads enjoyed the “having a beer afterwards part”! There are a few pictures of this and my computer skills are improving, so I hope the pictures will be up soon, the technical support on a farm is usual a tree you can lean things against!!!

The boxes over the summer have seemed to be a success from the feedback we have been given and by the quantity we have supplied. The recent mustard leaves have blown my mind off, although in an Indian, I find a Korma should be labelled extremely hot! The beans and tomatoes have come to an end, so if you are like our family, you have enough soup to feed the Chinese army over winter!

The carrots have been something of a poor show, we will persist with them next year and we are hoping to learn from our experience however we have heard that they are notoriously difficult to germinate. All of the onions, shallots and garlic are in the sheds with a third of the squashes undercover as well now. I have been informed at a pre-test of one of the squashes that it has a VERY selective taste, so stock up on herbs, salt, pepper, Levi Roots Reggae Reggae sauce, basically anything that can mask the taste. It is only an unconfirmed report though.

Things are definitely slowing down at the Promised Land currently apart from the rain. Brassicas including cabbage are coming for the next few weeks, a little later than expected due to that damned hare we had earlier in the year. As soon as it is dry enough we will be starting to put in next years brassicas which we hope to survive the winter this time with better establishment and weather.

N.B.

Please keep remembering those black boxes, we are still low and only just keeping our heads above water with them.

The tea, cakes and chat are very good on a Saturday whilst collecting and we hope you enjoy them, however, there are been confirmed reports that people have had TOO much fun during this time and forgotten to actually take their boxes home! I know we ask for the black boxes back but we will allow you to take the vegetables home in them, honest!
